Any qualified citizen who desires to become a candidate for city office shall file with the city secretary a signed application for his or her name to appear on the ballot. This application must be filed in accordance with the laws of the state.
In addition to all general requirements for application for a place on the ballot as specified in the Texas Election Code, or any other requirements specified in the laws or Constitution of the state, a candidate for mayor or city council must reside in the ward from which they would like to be elected.
In addition to other qualifications prescribed by the laws of this state, a candidate for municipal judge must be a qualified voter of the city, reside within the corporate limits of the city, and not hold any other office or employment under the city government.
For the May 2, 2020 general election, the deadline to file for a place on the general election ballot is Friday 13, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.
