Special Events

The Frank Buck Zoo offers many special events throughout the year, including, but not limited to, Easter Eggstravaganza, Frank Buck’s Birthday, Summer Date Nights, Bat Walks, Zoo LaLa, Sponsor Family Night, Zoobilee, and Zoo Boo. Special Event volunteers have the option to sign up for all events, or just the ones that fit within their schedule and interests.

Duties:

  • Assist Frank Buck Zoo staff with event decorations and set-up.
  • Assist Frank Buck Zoo staff with crowd control.
  • Assist Frank Buck Zoo staff with selling tickets, collecting money, and distributing wristbands.
  • Assist Frank Buck Zoo staff with ensuring that all guests in the zoo have wristbands.
  • Assist Frank Buck Zoo Staff with other duties as needed during the special event.
  • Assist with craft and game preparations.
  • Provide excellent customer service to our guests.
  • Use special skills as indicated in your application to enhance the experience of special events (such as photography, crafts, cooking, painting, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Ability to walk or self-transport to station.
  • Ability to stand or sit for periods of 2-4 hours.
  • Hand dexterity to collect tickets and money, as well as distribute wristbands and other materials.
  • Flexibility and patience during high demand/high guest volume events.


All Adult Volunteers must:

  • Complete volunteer orientation.
  • Wear assigned volunteer shirt.
  • Agree to a criminal background check.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Complete the volunteer application.
  • Read and abide by the policies listed in the Volunteer handbook.
  • Maintain a customer-focused and friendly attitude.
  • Contribute 48 hours per year (Volunteers who only choose Special Events are required to commit to 24 hours a year.)
  • Pay $100 adult volunteer fee (this helps to cover the cost of your shirt, supplies, training, and criminal background check.)

All Adult Volunteers must have the ability to:

  • Independently understand and follow directions.
  • Have good oral communication skills.
  • Work independently and with a team.
  • Volunteer in reasonable weather conditions.
  • Maintain a calm manner around animals.
