Notice of Public Hearing on Tax Increase FY 2017-2018

The GAINESVILLE CITY will hold two public hearings on a proposal to increase total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll in the preceding tax year by 4.277674 percent (percentage by which proposed tax rate exceeds lower of rollback tax rate or effective tax calculated under Chapter 26, Tax Code). Your individual taxes may increase at a greater or lesser rate, or even decrease, depending on the change in the taxable value of your property in relation to the change in taxable value of all other property and the tax rate that is adopted.

The first public hearing will be held on August 15, 2017 at 6:30 PM at 200 S Rusk, Gainesville TX 76240.

The second public hearing will be held on September 5, 2017 at 6:30 PM at 200 S Rusk, Gainesville TX 76240. The members of the governing body voted on the proposal to consider the tax increase as follows:

FOR: Jim Goldsworthy, Keith Clegg, Mary Jo Dollar, Carolyn Hendricks, Steve Gordon Ken Keeler

AGAINST: None

PRESENT and not voting: None

ABSENT: Tommy Moore

The average taxable value of a residence homestead in GAINESVILLE CITY last year was $96,344. Based on last year's tax rate of $0.705030 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed last year on the average home was $679.25.

The average taxable value of a residence homestead in GAINESVILLE CITY this year is $99,537. If the governing body adopts the effective tax rate for this year of $0.692900 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed this year on the average home would be $689.69.

If the governing body adopts the proposed tax rate of $0.722540 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed this year on the average home would be $719.19.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the hearings and express their views.

 


Notice of Public Hearing on Budget FY 2017-2018

The City of Gainesville will hold a Public Hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at City Hall, 200 South Rusk, to consider the Proposed Budget for the City of Gainesville for Fiscal Year 2017-2018.

This budget will raise more revenue from property taxes than last year's budget by an amount of $278,823 which is a 4.2% increase from last year's budget. The property tax revenue to be raised from new property added to the tax roll this year is $60,840.

The Gainesville City Council will consider and take action on adoption of the Budget for Fiscal Year 2017-2018 at its regular meeting on September 19, 2017.
