  • Assist with guest relations and way finding.
  • Inform guests about animals in our zoo, as well as the zoo itself.
  • Answer questions about the habitat and the animals in the habitat.
  • Learn about and present animal bio-facts to zoo guests.
  • Assist Animal Care Staff with crowd control and animal encounters.
  • Provide excellent customer service to guests.
  • Promote animal welfare and conservation.

*Please note that most volunteer opportunities do not involve direct contact with animals.


  • Must complete training on each animal to be interpreted (includes classes, tests, shadowing, and evaluations).
  • Must follow correct terminology/verbiage as trained.
  • Ability to walk or self-transport to animal exhibit.

All Adult Volunteers must:

  • Complete volunteer orientation.
  • Wear assigned volunteer shirt.
  • Agree to a criminal background check.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Complete the volunteer application.
  • Read and abide by the policies listed in the Volunteer handbook.
  • Maintain a customer-focused and friendly attitude.
  • Contribute 48 hours per year (Volunteers who only choose Special Events are required to commit to 24 hours a year.)
  • Pay $100 adult volunteer fee (this helps to cover the cost of your shirt, supplies, training, and criminal background check.)

All Adult Volunteers must have the ability to:

  • Independently understand and follow directions.
  • Have good oral communication skills.
  • Work independently and with a team.
  • Volunteer in reasonable weather conditions.
  • Maintain a calm manner around animals.
