The Gainesville Police Department participates in the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Law Enforcement Support Office (LESO) which provides excess Department of Defense (DoD) property to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.  The Gainesville Police Department has obtained equipment through this program in past years including the Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle and the observation tower at no cost to the taxpayers of Gainesville.  

LESO regulations now requires law enforcement agencies to notify the public and their Civilian Governing Body (CGB) that they may potentially request “controlled” property during the following fiscal year.  The “controlled” property may include the following:

Weapons (pistols, shotguns, long rifles), Weapon modification kits, Weapon parts, Training Weapons. Aircraft (Fixed & Rotary), Aircraft parts, Armored Vehicles (MRAPs, Peacekeepers, Armored HMMWVs & NTAVs), Vehicle parts, Weapon-mounted optics & lasers, Handheld Optics & lasers, Night Vision Devices (including thermal equipment), Optical & sighting equipment (range finders, boresights etc), Tactical cargo vehicles (HMMWV, Cargo trucks), Watercraft, Unmanned Ground Vehicles (all robots), Wheel assemblies, Tools (hand, pneumatic & power), Purpose-built Handheld Breaching Equipment, Decontamination Equipment, Computers & peripherals, Camouflage & deception equipment, Radio & Telephone Equipment, Generators, Lighting & observation towers, Riot gear (helmets, face shields, fixed batons over 2 ft., wearable gear & shields), Capability Sets, and Camera Sets.

The Gainesville Police Department has officially requested authorization from the Gainesville City Council to continue to participate in the LESO program which has been granted through a resolution.  This electronic notice serves as the official notification to the public.

El Departamento de Policía de Gainesville participa en la Oficina de Apoyo al Cumplimiento de la Ley (LESO) de la Agencia de Logística de Defensa (DLA) que proporciona propiedad excedente del Departamento de Defensa (DoD) a las agencias de cumplimiento de la ley federales, estatales y locales. El Departamento de Policía de Gainesville ha obtenido equipos a través de este programa en los últimos años, incluido el vehículo protegido contra emboscadas resistente a las minas (MRAP) y la torre de observación sin costo alguno para los contribuyentes de Gainesville.

El Departamento de Policía de Gainesville ha solicitado oficialmente la autorización del Concejo Municipal de Gainesville para continuar participando en el programa LESO, la cual ha sido otorgada a través de una resolución. Este aviso electrónico sirve como notificación oficial al público.
